This season in Milwaukee, those numbers have dipped to 9.8 points, 6.2 rebounds, and 2.5 assists on 39.3% so far. But Monday wasn’t about stats. It was about sentiment. “You can boo me all you want,†the Bucks coach told reporters. “But Myles gave you 10 years. I was really disappointed tonight… Myles wasn’t looking to leave. Myles was made available. “Just being a human and being emotional, and uh, think about him. He’s been here 10 years, probably had a lot of hardship, a lot of great moments. He first came into the lead when he was a little boy, right?†he said.
Kuzma then continued, “So, you have a lot of feelings naturally and emotions, but he handled it really well… You know, he couldn’t ask for a better, you know, return home revenge game.†Giannis Antetokounmpo, meanwhile, didn’t hesitate to make Turner feel like part of Milwaukee’s fabric.
“Immediately,†he said. “The moment he wears a Bucks jersey, the moment he comes to the facility, he’s one of us. Simple as that.†When asked if there ever was trash talk between them over the years, Giannis smiled.
“No, he was always high character… The moment he joins the team is he’s you know part of our family now. Now we going to go for battle for him and no matter when he’s in a tough situation, we’re all in a tough situation, we’re going to have his back.â€
Ten years in one city, not even ten months in another, and somehow Turner’s story has come full circle. Maybe this wasn’t about boos at all. Maybe it was about who keeps clapping when the crowd doesn’t.
